New York Philharmonic

The New York Philharmonic is the oldest and one of the greatest orchestras in the United States with nearly two hundred years of history performing classical works by the leading artists of today as well as the greatest composers of the past. The orchestra gives most of its approximately 150-160 concerts per year in David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City, while touring the rest of the country. In addition to the core Philharmonic, the orchestra regularly collaborates with leading artists from the fields of opera, ballet, theater, and other disciplines to present a wide range of projects, from the great classical works to new compositions. The New York Philharmonic has won numerous Grammy Awards and supports a variety of community programs that bring great classical music to all audiences throughout the country.

James Ehnes and Elim Chan

Erich Korngold (1897-1957) composed his Violin Concerto, which will be performed by masterful violinist James Ehnes, who interprets the piece with great musicality. Ehnes is one of the greatest violinists of our time. He has recorded over 60 CDs and has received numerous awards and prizes, including multiple Grammy Awards and a Royal Philharmonic Society Award. On this concert he will be playing the historic Marsick violin (1715) made by the famous luthier Antonio Stradivari. The conductor for this night of difficult repertoire is Elim Chan. Chan is the first female principal conductor of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. She is also a passionate music lover and brings out the full force of the music and the hardest hitting scores in the classical repertoire in her performances with the Philharmonic.
